Concrete Repair & Prep
A coating is only as good as what's underneath it. We grind, repair, and prepare your concrete so the coating bonds properly — the step that decides whether a garage floor lasts or peels.
Why prep decides everything
Epoxy and polyaspartic coatings don't stick to smooth, dirty, or sealed concrete — they stick to concrete that's been opened up and cleaned. A coating rolled over an unprepped slab looks fine for a while, then peels, bubbles, or lifts where tires sit. Most failed garage floors aren't bad coatings. They're skipped prep.
What prep involves
- Diamond grinding. A walk-behind grinder with diamond tooling removes the smooth top layer of the concrete, along with old paint, stains, and sealers. Grinding leaves a rough, open surface the coating can actually bond to — and it levels small ridges and rough spots at the same time.
- Crack repair. Cracks get cleaned out and filled with a repair material suited to the crack before any coating goes down. Filling stops the crack from telegraphing through the new floor, and it keeps water from working underneath the coating.
- Cleaning and inspection. Oil spots, dust, and debris get cleaned off, and the slab gets a final check for problem areas — soft spots, previous coatings, or moisture issues — before the first coat goes down. If your floor has a problem that makes a coating a bad idea, we'll tell you that before you spend anything.
Why Utah concrete needs this more than most
Utah garages live a hard life. Freeze–thaw cycles open up small cracks every winter. Road salt rides in on tires and eats at the surface. Oil drips and summer heat add their own wear. All of that leaves concrete rougher, more cracked, and more contaminated than a slab in a mild climate — which means the prep step here isn't optional, it's the whole job. A floor prepped for Utah conditions is a floor that stays down through the next winter and the one after that.
This step applies to every system we install — epoxy floors, polyaspartic coatings, and metallic and decorative finishes alike. The coating changes; the prep doesn't.
